June Development Update

I hope everyones June is off to a great start! I’ve been making steady progress since the last update.

The first set of features are in place on a solid foundation. While there’s sooo much I’d like to add I think it’s better to get the very first version in your hands and continue developing with direct feedback from you guys.

I’ve started the work of putting everything together and packaging it all up. All the pieces include the server agent, the desktop app, web app and a web service that ties everything together.

It’ll take some time to get everything working together (I just started working on the web service) and correctly packaged. Once I reach that milestone I’ll be able to incrementally update each piece and gain some momentum rolling out future releases at a steady pace.

To thank all of the uber early adopters for continuing to support the project and staying tuned to the blog I’m gonna make the very first beta available here before alerting anyone on the official beta email list.

I’ll be spending as many nights and weekends as I can getting the first release ready and I’m hoping to hit a date in July but I can’t make any promises. I appreciate everyones patience and support, please stay tuned and feel free to reach out with questions and comments!

    Hi,
    My main interest is in managing samba shares, raid config, nfs and streaming.
    Will i be able to?
    I ask because i didnt see anywhere any features posted.
    Also a friend of mine would be interested in managing web pages and users bandwidth and gb taken from the server.

    Thanks for the feedback Demetris! I’m aiming to follow the WordPress application model of a solid core with lots of customization available through plugins. The features you mentioned will most likely be part of the plugin ecosystem!

    Hi, I found your site a while ago and keep popping back to see how development is coming along so it was nice to see some recent updates and information in the comments. I’m hoping we’re not far off a beta release as I’d love to test things out on my VPS :)

    What license will this project be distributed under? Is it Open-Source or a proprietary implementation? If the development is done in open I would be very interested in taking a look at the repository, though I won’t have any time to help with developing but it would be interesting to see how you’ve solved things :) are you a large team working on this?

    The plan for licensing in GPL v3 for both the web/desktop app and server agent. I’m still formulating the business model, most likely a mix of support and web services that enhance the experience.
